After a few scary check-ups with the dermatologist caused by spending most of my life in the sunshine, I am now very serious about protecting my skin. Regular sunscreen use is arguably the most important part in graceful aging, as it protects the skin from photo-aging: one of the causes of wrinkles, sun spots and loss of elasticity. I always keep at least one tube with me to reapply every few hours as I have fair skin that burns easily (within 4 minutes of unprotected exposure). Now that I use sunscreen every day and leave it on my skin until cleansing at night, I am not going to put just any old chemical (yucky) sunscreen on my skin. I am going to choose the cleanest, most nourishing sunscreen that will not only protect me but make my skin healthier while using. I also much prefer to use non-nano Zinc Oxide as the particle size is large enough that it does not enter the pores and therefore cannot enter my bloodstream and cause damage like conventional sunscreens.

LEFT to RIGHT: SUNTEGRITY Natural Mineral Sunscreen for Body (SPF 30), SUNTEGRITY “5 in 1” Natural Moisturizing Face Sunscreen – Tinted (SPF 30), PRATIMA Neem Rose Face Sunscreen (SPF 30), BADGER Baby Sunscreen Cream (SPF 30), BADGER Sport Sunscreen Cream (SPF 35).

SUNTEGRITY Natural Mineral Sunscreen for Body 5 oz, Broad Spectrum SPF 30

This sunscreen formula is very creamy and soft. Although it does take a little bit more work to rub in than others, this vegan, non-greasy and non-toxic formula is totally worth it. It has a faint scent of citrusy-grape (you can also purchase the unscented) but I really enjoy the scent and actually prefer it. For sensitive skin types, the unscented may be the better option as this does contain a very low concentration of essential oils. This body sunscreen works equally as well as a face sunscreen. I bring it with me when I travel because it is so multipurpose.

SUNTEGRITY “5 in 1” Natural Moisturizing Face Sunscreen – Tinted, Broad Spectrum SPF 30

I really like this Sunscreen. I also sampled (and loved) the face sunscreen/primer by Suntegrity but much prefer the tinted coverage. Although it does not provide a lot of coverage, it does even out my skin tone a little bit and works beautifully under my makeup. This sunscreen has a thinner creamy consistency that quickly absorbs into the skin.

PRATIMA Neem Rose Face Sunscreen SPF 30

I really enjoy the scent of this sunscreen but it is very different from the other sunscreens that I use regularly. I purchased after getting a Pratima gift card from a family member. I used it a few times under makeup. It has a thin, milky texture that did not absorb so well and made my makeup look very slippery almost immediately. After knowing that that I could not use it with other products, I used it a few times alone and felt that it left my skin feeling heavy with a tacky finish. I always looked forward to washing it off as soon as I could. I wish it could have worked for me because I love that all Pratima products are created by Ayurvedic Medicine tradition.

BADGER Baby Sunscreen Cream SPF 30

Badger has some of my favorite (safe & effective) sunscreens. This nourishing formula is enriched with Chamomile & Calendula that is suitable for sensitive skin (hypoallergenic) and the environment (biodegradable)! Do not be alarmed by the slight light green/yellow color. As soon as it is applied to the skin, this sunscreen absorbs very nicely with very little white cast. The texture is creamy and thick but melts easily into the skin.

BADGER Sport Sunscreen Cream SPF 35

This sunscreen is much thicker than the other Badger sunscreen. It results in significantly more of a white cast than all of the other sunscreens listed above. However, I believe that it is the most water resistant out of any natural sunscreen brand that I have used and I trust this sunscreen implicitly. This formula is great for sensitive skin as it has just 5 ingredients and does not contain any added scents or essential oils.

Honorable mention but don’t currently have: Babyganics SPF 30

Other sunscreen brands that I would like to try: Raw Elements, COOLA, Badger Rose Sunscreen, Josh Rosebrook
